About n8n
n8n is the automation tool for people who would rather own the workflow engine than rent it. You build workflows visually from nodes, drop into code where a node is not enough, and run them on n8n's cloud or on your own server. The pricing page (read 16 October 2026) quotes euro prices billed annually: Starter at €20 a month for 2,500 workflow executions and 5 concurrent executions; Pro at €50 for 10,000 executions and up to 50 concurrent; Business at €667 for 40,000 executions, self-hosted only for now, with a 14-day trial that needs a card; and Enterprise by contact, with 200+ concurrent executions. The cloud plans offer a free trial without a card, and every plan lists unlimited active workflows and unlimited steps. The metering is the main reason to consider it: an execution is one run of the whole workflow, however many steps it has and however much data it moves, so long multi-step workflows cost far less than under per-step pricing. The Community edition is the standard self-hosted version on GitHub, released under n8n's fair-code licence rather than a conventional open-source one, so read the licence before you embed or resell it; paid self-hosted licence keys must ping n8n's licence server daily. The limits: self-hosting means you own uptime, upgrades, backups and security; Starter's 2,500 executions go quickly on a workflow triggered every few minutes; and prices are in euros. Zapier on this site is the simpler, maintenance-free choice; Make sits between the two. Verdict: the best value here for technical teams running many multi-step workflows — self-host if someone can maintain it, otherwise start on cloud Pro.
